Michael Hemming is undoubtedly one of the finest young athletes Pleasant Valley has come across in a long time. He is a two-time state champion in cross-country and a state champion in track. For this winter, however, Hemming will focus his incredible athletic ability on wrestling.
Head Coach Royce Duncan is excited to watch Hemming wrestle again this year and adds, “He broke the 40-win barrier last season and is quickly approaching 100 career varsity wins.”
Hemming qualified for state in wrestling last season as well.
Hemming’s peers think highly of him and commends his attitude and efforts. They say, “He is genuine, a tough competitor, a hard worker, well-conditioned, dedicated, and he leads by example.”
His example shines through in his schoolwork and personal life as well. Hemming is an A-B student who dedicates an hour to an hour and a half an evening on homework. After graduation he plans on attending a University, although still undecided on which. In his spare time he referees elementary level wrestling meets.
Coach Duncan said, “Michael sets a great example for young kids."
Hemming concluded the interview in full school spirit. In the words of Michael Hemming, “Go, Spartans!”
